G.R.E.E.D. – Galactic Research: Exploration & Engineering Division

G.R.E.E.D. is a massive, multi-player online game concept produced by The Illusion Factory to create a new virtual reality gaming system that allows users to mine their plots of land on the planet, Jin, and to pull large sums of gold out of the virtual world and bring that money into the real world.

The Illusion Factory created the concepts for the game, the 3D models, produced the video, mapped out full game play, planned the Kickstarter Campaign.

The first of its kind, G.R.E.E.D. takes virtual reality gaming to an entirely different level. G.R.E.E.D. was produced in partnership with RVI, Reality Ventures International.

Following his life’s journey with unpredictable stops, including including Station Manager of WNBC-TV, to the Executive Suite of Chock Full O’Nuts, to President, Don King Productions, and the bizarre world of championship prize fighting. He then joined Viacom and the international world of television, which led to his term as President, MGM/UA Television Group, and finally through his creation of World International Network as its Founder and Chairman. A Kid From Brooklyn: Lessons Learned is a poignant sharing of his journey, punctuated by reflections through which Mr. Gershman illuminates experiences that shaped his career.

The Adicolor concept was launched by Adidas in 1983 where shoes were sold with the tools that they could be customized by the end user. The “Adicolor” sneaker was an all-white training shoe was specifically created for the Adicolor concept.

Overview:

NBC Universal contracted The Illusion Factory to strategize and build a fun video-driven trivia game that gives media buyers insight to CNBC’s network and CNBC Smart’s content. All deliverables tied into a sweepstakes that awarded high level prizes.

Strategy:

CNBC wanted to create an event to use during the Broadcast Upfronts to introduce CNBC’s prime time line up featuring CNBC Smart. The main event was invitation only and hosted approximately 400 people, targeting media buyers. The goal of the event was to engage the audience and create a buzz in the marketplace.

Execution:

CNBC Prime time content is focused on documentaries which take an inside look at companies, industries and business leaders. To help accomplish this goal of maintaining the buyers desire to login to the CNBC site on a daily basis throughout the Broadcast Upfronts, The Illusion Factory created an online game to generate excitement about the event and encourage daily attendance on the site. The game had to be intelligent and engage players using information from the primetime content. In addition to the game, CNBC requested a microsite/landing page that provided information about the event and drove visitors to the online game.

Results:

Overall, the campaign exceed every expectation. The target goal of 400 participants was exceeded tenfold with over 4,000 registered players. Return visits to the site were above 80% and the game was played substantially more than 5,000 times. CNBC and The Illusion Factory used Google Analytics to track all metrics of the campaign.

This complete social media platform app and the innovative augmented reality television that adds an emotion layer atop any still or motion image was created at IllusionQuest Interactive. IllusionQuest Interactive built this Expression Engine™ platform in the iOS system utilizing our proprietary Augmented Reality Television technologies.

Use one of hundreds of live action or animated elements and place them atop a still picture, or video image that is captured live through the smart device and marry those elements together for output in Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Vine, or post it via the PingTank social network. Composite images are exportable to the camera roll and shareable via email or SMS.

This concept and its execution are firsts of their kind. PingTank is the next generation of interactive television by allowing the audience to Ping the elements they like and tank the ones that they do not like in real time with the television program.

• Simplify the user orientation process
• Create excitement about the Luckity suite of games and entice others to join the platform and spend money
• Create a viral coefficient to the Luckity site based on the excitement of winning money online

Results:
Illusion Factory dreamed up and executed more than 20 games or variations of those games which will be deployed live on the Luckity platform later this year.

While a free version is available, the subscription based portion of Elite includes exclusive premium features such as monthly downloadable content, daily competitions with virtual and real life prizes, the ability to level up players’ clan, pro analysis and strategies, Elite TV, and more.

The Coup:
The Illusion Factory produced 60 ads over a period of 30 days for distribution into hundreds of interactive media destinations.

The Eventuality:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III broke all entertainment industry sales records by achieving $1 Billion in sales in 16 days, which beat the previous record holder, Avatar, by a full day. The Elite version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was enthusiastically received and utilized by fans worldwide as this record setting franchise continues to find and regularly appeal to its audience. IllusionQuest Studios created SkyQuest Adventures to launch their Rollerbatics brand of aerobatic passenger experiences. Studying all of the world’s greatest roller coasters, SkyQuest Adventures brings a first person experience with the only roller coaster that goes more than 200 miles per hour, with 1500 foot straight drops and operates more than a mile high in the sky. Rollerbatics is the only roller coaster which requires a parachute for the passenger to wear prior to riding. The Illusion Factory and QuestSphere collaborated on bringing this game from legendary sports gaming pioneer, Strat-O-Matic, to life for use on the Sports Illustrated Kids Website for Time Inc. This full season fantasy sports baseball game interpreted live data feeds from Stats streams and interpolated that into recreation of the key plays via avatars which had been modeled using professional baseball players to simulate each of the moves for professional accuracy. This game was one of many first to accomplish feats for the union that would eventually become IllusionQuest Studios.

Goal:
Drive DVD purchasers to access the Metabeam app for second screen interaction with the home entertainment.

Execution:
Featuring the Metabeam second screen special features, this fully animated 3D spot was produced entirely from raw materials modelled and animated at The Illusion Factory.

Results:
Audience interest in the Metabeam second screen functionality skyrocketed and further propelled this already very successful title to ever greater sales records.

The Illusion Factory was hired by Hudson and Sunset Media and Mattel to build a social media system across multiple platforms to cast a reality television series revolving around their flagship brand, Barbie. Genuine Ken: The Search for The Great American Boyfriend was created to allow girls to post pictures of great guys that they wanted to nominate for the opportunity to become a contestant on this reality series. The photos would be available on mobile devices for a yes/no voting option as well as online on a custom website that The Illusion Factory built to accompany a custom Facebook page. The higher ranking male contestants won social media badges on Facebook and when their score hit a certain number, they were allowed to load videos of themselves which would also be voted on by the audience. Top contestants were chosen and cast as contestants on the reality series. The Illusion Factory was responsible for the entire interactive components of this program along with making promotional videos and main show titles for the program.

As the state laws changed in Delaware, American Wagering was readying to make a bid for the rights to take over the sports wagering in the state of Delaware. They hired The Illusion Factory to put together the overview reel which summarizes why AWI is the perfect candidate for that license. The reel performed as planned and AWI was awarded the license.

In addition, The Illusion Factory worked in association with our client at American Wagering and Leroy’s Horse & Sports Place to bring the first ever legal wagering device on a smartphone to life. Our design of this app on the Blackberry set gaming history when Nevada Gaming officially approved this app to come to market. The Illusion Factory also designed this app for release on the iPhone. The Illusion Factory also designed a complete revamp of the sports wagering kiosks that Leroy’s Horse & Sports Place was using throughout Nevada.

Leroy’s Horse & Sports Place also known as Leroy’s Race and Sport Book or simply Leroy’s is the largest operator of sports books in Nevada with 77 race and sports books and kiosks. The reel that The Illusion Factory produced was successful in attracting global gaming giant, William Hill, who successfully acquired American Wagering in 2010.

The Illusion Factory continued our work for William Hill with interactive advertising campaigns as well as a redesign of the sports wagering app in all formats.

The Illusion Factory worked on The Sopranos from cradle to grave for both Warner Bros. Television and Warner Bros. International Television. The Illusion Factory designed the first artwork to promote the pilot script, created the website and several games for both domestic and international use, cut full season promos for the entire series, designed international advertising campaigns and magazine covers and conceived and produced multiple sizzle reels.

The Sopranos was created by David Chase and executive produced by David ChaseBrad Grey, Terence Winter, Matthew Weiner. It was written by David Chase, Terence Winter, Robin Green, Mitchell Burgess, Matthew Weiner and other writers. The Sopranos was directed by Tim Van Patten, John Patterson, Allen Coulter, Alan Taylor and others. This landmark series starred James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Steven Van Zandt, Tony Sirico, Robert Iler and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

There are many who regard The Sopranos as the greatest television series of all time. It was showered with countless awards including Peabody Awards for its first two seasons, 21 Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globe Awards. In 2013 The Writers Guild of America named The Sopranos the best-written TV series of all time, while TV Guide ranked it the best television series of all time.

Smallville is an American television series developed by writers/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.  It is based on the DC Comics character Superman, originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.  The series follows the adventures of a young Clark Kent, who resides in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas.

Smallville starred Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum. Warner Bros. International Television hired The Illusion Factory to create these 3D pianos for the promotion of the Warner Bros. Theatrical Music Library. Each piano held 5 CDs of music from the library inside the case. The pianos were a giant success, causing new licensing opportunities in many territories worldwide.The Illusion Factory designed and produced 500 brushed aluminum bank vaults for Warner Bros. International Television to promote the Warner Bros. Theatrical Library worldwide. Each vault drawer is marked at different box office denominations to sort the library in minisales brochures by gross revenues. The top drawer held a VHS tape with trailers for all of the enclosed properties. The vault features working, locking drawers, and an oxidized patina ceiling with WB shields etched out of the metal. The side panels feature a metallic emboss/deboss of the Warner Bros. Shield. The Illusion Factory used a brand new program called Photoshop to conceptualize this product prior to producing it.

Edwards designs, manufactures and markets tissue heart valves and related repair products. Genentech produces (amongst other products) Lucentis (ranibizumab) which is made from a human antibody fragment. It works by keeping new blood vessels from forming under the retina (a sensory membrane that lines the inside of the eye).

Barnyard  is a 2006 American computer-animated film, produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, directed by Steve Oedekerk, and produced by Steve Oedekerk and Paul Marshal. It was released on August 4, 2006.

The film stars the voices of Kevin James, David Koechner, Sam Elliott, Courtney Cox, Danny Glover, and Jeff Garcia.

The film is the second Nickelodeon  movie to spin-off into a TV series, the first being Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

It was a box office success, earning $116.5 million worldwide against a $51 million production budget.

The Illusion Factory was hired by Real Play to build a Cinema Roulette game that would play in a movie theater inside the Venetian Casino in which the audience would have tablets for them to place remote bets while sitting inside the theater. This was created before the invention of iPads or tablets, so the playing device was a small remote computer.  The Cinema Roulette wheel was animated in Maya 3D for each possible outcome, and then attached to a Nevada Gaming Commission Approved random number generator and projected on large screen to connect with the handheld devices. This game was a revolutionary achievement in its time and paved the way for many other crowd based regulated games that have followed since.

Overview:
The Illusion Factory volunteered our services to the Los Angeles Police Department in a community effort to reduce the overall volume of theft from parked vehicles.

Goals:
• Increase citizen awareness of the theft problem and encourage them to protect their belongings
• Notify criminals that awareness is going up to discourage the illegal behaviors
• Reduce the crime in this very costly category to reduce wasted costs and increase productivity of the citizens and visitors of Los Angeles

Execution:
Our Lock It. Hide It. Keep It. campaign was used in all out of home advertising media to tremendous results.

Reults:
• Theft from vehicles in the City of Los Angeles plummeted 28% as a direct result of our having increased consumer awareness.
• The tremendous success of this campaign has spawned similar campaigns in surrounding cities and municipalities.

Accolades:
The Los Angeles Police Department honored The Illusion Factory with a Commemoration of Public Achievement as well as the highly prestigious Challenge Coin, the symbolic medallion of our country’s pilots from WWII-forward, honoring devotion and allegiance for their unit.

90210 is an American television series, developed by Rob Thomas, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, that aired on The CW from September 2, 2008 to May 13, 2013. It is the fourth series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise created by Darren Star. The series was produced by CBS Television Studios.

90210 revolves around several students at West Beverly Hills High School, including new Beverly Hills residents, Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wilds).

Additional cast include, Rob Estes, as their father, Jessica Walter as their grandmother, and Lori Loughlin as their mother.

During its first two seasons, 90210 featured cast members from the original series, including Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Ann Gillespie, Tori Spelling and Joe E. Tata.

Entertainment.  This game featured the ability to pick the facial features from a choice of 8 actors and actresses and combine them onto a single face. This Frankenstonian game proved that a combination of great features from several people will not necessarily create a beautiful person, and in many cases proved exactly the opposite. Once the final face was created, the game allows you to attach it to a body and a background environment and post it to social media or send to a friend. The game was a tremendous success and won several Gold Awards.

This game was one of many first to accomplish feats for the union that would eventually become IllusionQuest Studios.

• Different creatives were employed to rollout specific messaging. By geo-targeting the ads we were able to dynamically swap the ad’s background to match the closest city’s basketball arena. In all there were 4 background options, one for Los Angeles, New York, Miami & Detroit.

The style guide for use by licensees to produce Ozzy and Drix merchandise was designed by The Illusion Factory for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Featuring a viscous gel pack inside a die cut cover, this innovative style guide won many awards of its own for innovation in print design and packaging including the Gold Promax Award.

In addition, The Illusion Factory designed and produced a website and a suite of games for Warner Bros. Animation to accompany the release of the television series.

Ozzy and Drix was based on the film, Osmosis Jones by Marc Hyman, Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly. Developed by Marc Hyman and starred the voices of Phil LaMarr, Jeff Bennett, Tasia Valenza, and Alanna Ubach.

The Illusion Factory produced and edited numerous seasons of ER promos, sales reels and featurettes for Warner Bros. Television and Constant c Productions. In addition, we built the ER website, created an ER Diagnostics game to immerse the viewer into the experience of the emergency room, as well as creating the key art artwork for the exterior studio billboard for the show. The Illusion Factory also created a virtual reality Second Life visit into the ER set.

ER was created by critically acclaimed novelist, Michael Crichton for air on NBC from 1994 to 2009. It was produced by Constant c Productions and Amblin Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. The Executive Producers were Christopher Chulack, John Wells, Michael Crichton, Jack Orman, Lydia Woodward, Carol Flint, David Zabel.

The Illusion Factory delivered on brand execution of the G4TV theme surrounding Attack of the Show to spark audience attraction both from the overall G4TV brand awareness as well as from the existing show fan base.

The Illusion Factory designed and produced 500 brushed aluminum bank vaults for Warner Bros. International Television to promote the Warner Bros. Theatrical Library worldwide. Each vault drawer is marked at different box office denominations to sort the library in minisales brochures by gross revenues. The top drawer held a VHS tape with trailers for all of the enclosed properties. The vault features working, locking drawers, and an oxidized patina ceiling with WB shields etched out of the metal. The side panels feature a metallic emboss/deboss of the Warner Bros. Shield. The Illusion Factory used a brand new program called Photoshop to conceptualize this product prior to producing it.

The film is the second Nickelodeon  movie to spin-off into a TV series, the first being Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

It was a box office success, earning $116.5 million worldwide against a $51 million production budget.

Execution:
The SaaS results are a supreme product that towers over Webex®, GoToMeeting®, and Adobe Connect®. The NetConference® system allows for up to 8 people on video camera on the iPad, while simultaneously viewing videos, powerpoints, word docs, websites, while simultaneously being able to whiteboard with all participants at once on top of media or on a whiteboard itself.

Results:

A joint venture between Google and Motorola created a need for a unique app that would utilize all aspects of the hardware of the then invented and newly released Xoom tablet. The Illusion Factory created an app to supplement the RCVR webisode series with an app that allowed users to simultaneously witness a sighting of an alien craft using augmented reality, and record the experience to their tablet and export that video to the social networks. The site features all of the Baby Looney Toons characters: Baby Bugs, Baby Lola, Baby Petunia, Baby Daffy, Baby Melissa, Baby Taz, Baby Tweety, Baby Sylvester and Granny. NBC Universal hired The Illusion Factory to create a micro site and a rich media, and social media campaign to promote their new program, Jump City: Seattle on G4TV. It features four of the top freerunning and parkour teams in the United States all coming together for the first U.S. tricking competition. The Illusion Factory created a new social media functionality for this project which facilitated the ability for fans to use google maps to check in and list places for parkour that they had experienced.

Jump City: Seattle was directed by Matt Bartley and starred Blair Herter and Brady Romberg.

The cards were very well received and got quite a few mentions in trades and industry events. They also won several key awards.

In Fear Factor, a group of contestants is challenged to perform a number of terrifying and/or disgusting stunts, from driving a dangerous course to eating something really nasty. The series was produced by Endemol with Joe Rogan hosting.
